PROVO CLIFFS MARKED FOR DESTRUCTION

A striking and historic landmark east of Provo, Utah is being destroyed, a series of cliffs descending from the north and south sides to a narrow point that has been called the Gate of Rock Canyon. They have been standing in stately beauty for thousands of years. But a private land owner is letting the cliffs be cut down. Many tons of rock have already been shipped to Las Vegas, according to a Provo city official, and the rest will follow if nothing is done to get this landmark back into public control. Failure will mean that Provo and Orem will get a new look: a giant working quarry, a vast rock pit in place of a pristine canyon view. Cliffs on both sides of Rock Canyon's mouth will be cut down. more ...
